RENTON, WA – The employees of both Fortune Fish & Gourmet Company and Orca Bay Seafoods Inc., in collaboration with the Seafood Nutrition Partnership, have embarked on a four month Omega-3 Challenge and Heart Healthy Pledge. The concept was developed when fellow National Fisheries Institute Board members Ryan Mackey, President & CEO of Orca Bay Seafoods, Inc., and Sean O’Scannlain, President & CEO, Fortune Fish & Gourmet Company decided to engage their employees in a wellness program to increase their omega-3 fatty acid intake via the USDA’s recommendation of eating seafood at least twice a week.

“It’s hard to imagine that we could work in an industry that is widely recognized for providing such healthy and nutritious products to consumers without doing our best to encourage our own healthy choices. In addition, everybody loves a good competition and who better to challenge than O’Scannlain and his crew,” Mackey explains the friendly competition between the two companies and the importance of wellness to employees.

The Omega-3 Challenge and Heart Healthy pledge kicked-off on May 1, 2015 when both companies had employees take Omega-3 index screening tests. On September 1, 2015, participating employees from both companies will be re-tested and the Seafood Nutrition Partnership will announce the winner from each company and which of the two companies had the higher average Omega-3 score. “We are excited to support Fortune Fish and Orca Bay as they take SNP’s Healthy Heart Pledge to the next level and add some friendly competition to help their respective workforce get heart healthy,” says Linda Cornish, Executive Director of Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP).
