Started in 1878 as an agricultural testing service to grain traders in Europe, SGS took on the name Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) in 1919. Since that time, they have expanded into a network of over 1000 offices in more than 130 countries. The SGS Group consists of 210 affiliated companies worldwide. Today the range of services offered by the company extends into many different industry sectors, including agricultural, mineral, oil and gas, life sciences, consumer testing, environmental and automotive industries. SGS uses its expertise in matters as diverse as seed development to road safety. Recent projects of SGS include providing quality control services during a desulphurization project at a thermal power plant in Portugal and granting an ISO environmental certification to a global freight forwarding and logistics company.
SGS helps Orca Bay ensure the safety and quality of our products throughout the food chain. We currently use their services in 10 countries from South America to many parts of Asia. They perform many different inspections and food handling and safety tests - from thorough lab tests for antibiotics, histamines, allergens, and mercury at the processing facility, as well as inspect for portion size and quality, correct labelling and packaging, and certify loading inspections. We have a great working relationship with all the inspection teams we use and rely on them for their timely, accurate reports.
