Orca Bay Seafoods donates to the benefit and auction for Cops with Cancer Foundation and Washington Special Olympics. This was a semi-formal dinner and silent auction on June 5th benefiting both Cops with Cancer and Washington Special Olympics, and includes music from the Butch Harrison Quartet and dinner catered by Don Persson. There was great silent auction items and a live auction, good seafood (of course!) and a great turnout. The event was held at Brotherton Cadillac in the showroom, and the purpose of this event is to raise money for these worthy charities, raise awareness and take an evening out to catch up with other members in the Renton community.
A little bit about Cops with Cancer:
“Cops with Cancer was originally founded by three officers in the area. Greg Duffin from the Kent (WA) Police Dept. wanted to start a group that included officers who had cancer because he felt like the strength in the law enforcement community could fill voids and provide resources that other organizations were lacking. DJ Baskin from Tukwila Police Dept. and Mark Day from Renton Police Dept. were all original members and embraced this model and supported each other. Unfortunately both Greg and DJ have passed and Mark has been working full time with Cops with Cancer and crushing his illness. For the past year, a group of volunteers have made the dreams of these three courageous individuals a reality. Cops with Cancer is a nonprofit charity with a website and bank account. In addition to the dinner we are holding a hockey and a softball tournament. DJ was also a big fundraiser for the Special Olympics so we thought it would be fitting to support them as well.”
