OPEN POSITIONS:

 

Position Title: IMPORT DESK

Department:             Purchasing

Reporting relationships:              Executive Vice President, COO

FLSA:             Non-exempt

Revision:            February 2010

Job Summary:  Provide administrative support to accurately record and track product purchases, returns, and inventory transactions.

Essential Functions:

  • Enter all Import purchase orders on a daily basis.
  • Track Imports for expected receiving date and/or delays.
  • Communicate with warehouse personnel regarding product delivery, method of delivery, and product movement between warehouses.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable with regards to advances, d/p’s, letters of credit and other forms of payments.
  • Arrange for product movement to various inventory locations.
  • Post product received and returned to inventory.
  • Notify all interested parties regarding receipt and/or delay of product.
  • Assist Purchasing and Quality Assurance with investigation and preparation of claims, e.g., rejected product, short weight issues, glaze issues; providing trucking personnel with shipping information for delivery of product to external product testing sites; and arranging timely returns of customer rejected product.
  • Review, process, and maintain files for all import documentation.
  • Act as liaison for customs brokers, FDA, Customs and other interested parties regarding product purchases.
  • Maintain and monitor vendor HACCP documentation.

 

Secondary Responsibilities, Duties:

  • Archive purchasing files at fiscal year end.
  • Complete cross training with inventory control and outside production clerk functions – serve as backup during absences and work overflows.

 

Minimum Requirements

 Education:  High school diploma or equivalent. 

 Experience:  Minimum two years purchasing assistant experience, preferably in seafood industry.  Import experience a must.

Knowledge and Skills:  Intermediate level proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook, and ten-key by touch. Requires excellent communication and organizational skills, accuracy, attention to detail, ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines in a fast paced work environment.

 

Working Conditions:  Typical office environment with moderate noise levels. Must be able to meet multiple project deadlines in a fast paced work environment with numerous interruptions.

 

Physical Requirements:  Normal hearing, good speaking voice and clear enunciation. Requires sitting for extended periods of time while performing extensive data entry.

Position Title: QUALITY ASSURANCE TECHNICIAN

 Department:             Quality Assurance

Reporting relationships:              Reports to QA Supervisor/QA Manager

FLSA:             Non-exempt

Job Summary:  Works with little or no supervision to accurately perform product quality tests ensuring raw and finished products meet Orca Bay’s quality standards.  Documents testing and inspection results and alerts appropriate staff of potential problems.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects and tests product for wholesomeness, and to ensure product meets customer specifications.  Alerts appropriate staff of questionable product quality in a timely manner.
  • Performs sensory testing on raw seafood products and organoleptic testing on cooked seafood products.  (testing uses senses of sight, smell, and taste)
  • Uses mathematical formulas to perform tests and accurately documents testing results.
  • Follows and enforces employee Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).  Notifies QA Manager of any outstanding issues in a timely manner.
  • Performs tasks related to HACCP program, such as metal detector checks, scale calibration checks, hand/product dip strength checks, and saw blade checks.
  • Follows quality control procedures and inspection techniques, sample collecting procedures, and operates Scangrader. 
  • Accurately maintains inspection and test records, and enters inspection results on paper forms or in Excel spreadsheet.

Secondary Responsibilities, Duties:

  • Changes Scangrader program as needed for production, and prints totals and program set-ups.
  • May collect samples for histamine, moisture, and mercury testing. 

Minimum Requirements

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:  Minimum one year direct quality assurance experience in a food manufacturing setting, preferably seafood processing.  Working knowledge of HACCP principles/requirements also desirable.

Certifications:  Requires current Food Handler’s certificate.

Knowledge and Skills:  Requires ability to calculate fractions and percentages, good organizational skills, and ability to speak, read and write in English.  Must be able to operate calculator, accurately follow detailed verbal and/or written instructions, and interact professionally with coworkers.  Also requires basic proficiency in Excel, high level of accuracy, attention to detail, ability to multi-task, and ability to effectively prioritize tasks in a fast paced work environment.

Working Conditions:  Work is performed in a food manufacturing environment where ambient temperature averages 50 degrees.  Moderate noise levels due to operation of manufacturing equipment.  Work schedule is 10 hours per day, Monday – Thursday, with frequent overtime on Fridays and occasional Saturday work due to seasonal business demands.

 Physical Requirements:  Normal hearing, good speaking voice and clear enunciation. Requires standing and walking for approximately four-hour time blocks.  Must be able to lift and carry 50-lbs. boxes.

Job Summary:  To perform unskilled production work such as feeding vac-pac machines, sorting, checking weight, and packaging frozen seafood.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs unskilled production work on seafood packing line, including feeding vac-pac machines, sorting, checking weight and packaging of frozen seafood.
  • To complete tasks in a fast paced work environment, as well as follow directions as given by leads
  • Become part of the production team to ensure that the line is as efficient and as possible.
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices, and report any violations to Supervisor.
  • Be aware of and follow all company policies as outlined in Employee Handbook. 

Secondary Responsibilities, Duties:

  • Perform special jobs as directed by Leads.

Minimum Requirements

Education:  High school diploma or equivalent. 

Experience:  Minimum three years increasingly responsible seafood production experience.

Knowledge and Skills:  Ability to effectively complete tasks in a fast paced work environment,

Working Conditions:  Position holder works on factory floor where elevated noise levels require hearing protection.  Ambient temperature in factory area averages 50°F.   Must be able to meet multiple and competing project deadlines in a fast paced work environment.  This position requires frequent extended hours due to seasonal business demands.

Physical Requirements:  Normal hearing, good speaking voice and clear enunciation.
